Ideal for students who want to be right in the historic centre of Montpellier.
Not ideal for students who are on a budget.
The good
- Several modern buildings.
- Great range of courses.
- Great location (in the historical centre of Montpellier)
The bad
- One of the most expensive language schools in Montpellier.
Date of my inspection visit at LSF Montpellier: May 23, 2024
My overall take
LSF is in one of the best locations in Montpellier, right by the Arc de Triomphe, Promenade du Peyrou and just off of Rue Foch which is a high end shopping street in Montpellier.
Starting with the classes, classes are interactive and based on conversational practice, and there is a particular focus on practising oral skills. The seating arrangement demonstrates this. To increase communication, the students face each other in a horseshoe; teachers use various topics to teach a broader range of knowledge and vocab. They also use online games to keep the lesson light and fun. The “LSF roadbook” is given to every student on their first day and is like a personal planner; it is also a workbook with extra materials that students can use for further studies. No other school in Montpellier I have visited has a resource like this; it’s a unique and beneficial resource.
Beyond the classroom, teachers have a good relationship with their students. Students often visit bakeries, corner shops, and libraries as part of lessons to practise their oral skills in real life. There are also immersive class trips where students visit landmarks and are tasked with explaining the landmark history in French. Additionally, there are French cooking classes, dancing workshops, weekly conversational workshops, movie nights and board game socials for social activities. The social programme is very inclusive of all interests.
Students who want to be immersed in artistic culture, get involved with the locality of Montpellier, and most of all, be in the historic centre of Montpellier would love this school.

Questions to school director
Excerpts below from my conversation with Emma Patissier, Social Media Manager of LSF Montpellier.
Me: “What sets your school apart from others in the city?“
School: “LSF has existed for over 20 years. We have built the school on four main pillars: location, good relationships with our students, our teaching is also really important, and lastly, cultural activities; we really focus on giving our students a global experience“
Me: “Is there a particular type of student for whom your school is especially suitable?
School: “We don’t have a typical student; we sometimes have more than 80 nationalities, aged 16 to even 90. We provide courses for French leisure, French professionals, certification, and teachers.“
School inspection report
Classrooms
16 classrooms (split between 3 buildings). Classrooms all differ in size but are relatively modern and airy with windows, the only classroom that doesn’t have this airy feel is in the basement, but it is well lit. There are projectors and whiteboards in every classroom, an interactive whiteboard in some classrooms, and TVs in others.
Facilities
There is a small and cosy lounge area in each building (except the 3rd building), but each building also has a small kitchenette that students can use to warm up their food and prepare hot drinks. There is also a small outdoor courtyard space in front of the main building.
Surrounding area
A 10-minute walk from Place de la Comédie and less than a minute to Arc de Triomphe, Promenade du Peyrou and other landmarks are also very close by. There are several different eateries and even a small supermarket on Rue Saint-Guilhem, less than 5 minutes walk from the school.
Social activities

The social programme is also great because it provides one activity in the morning and one in the afternoon and an excursion at the weekend. They have an extensive range of activities, including yoga, dance classes, cheese and wine tasting, food market tours, and so much more.

Ratings as of June 28, 2024
Why no Google or Facebook ratings? Schools may have requested Facebook, Google or Trustpilot reviews only from those students that previously gave positive after-course evaluations. I only trust ratings from independent booking platforms/agencies, that allow exclusively clients who booked via their platform to rate the schools. I have checked each of these sites above and they have no disproportional number of positive vs negative reviews.
