Let’s call Brighton ‘London by the sea’. The city is well renowned for the same vibrancy and food scene that London is so envied for. If I had to describe Brighton in one word, it would be ‘inclusive’. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to be the most authentic version of themselves. Whether you like to party or have solo picnics at the beach, Brighton embraces and promotes it all. Think of it as one big community. So if you are looking for somewhere like London without the extortionate costs and fast-paced lifestyle, Brighton would be the perfect location. And only 1 hour away from London ?! I’d be sold, what about you?
Schools on this page have been selected based on client reviews from independent sites, popularity (research of annual student intake), and appeal to different student types and budgets. Poorly rated schools have been discarded.
Every language school on this page has been personally visited by me. I’ve inspected the classrooms, facilities, and spoken with students and staff. My reviews reflect my honest opinion. I never accept money from schools. If you book through a link on this site, LingoTraveller may earn a commission from LanguageCourse.net, and you’ll pay less than booking directly with the school. Win-win. Click on the schools to see my detailed review and YouTube video of each school visit.
1 Loxdale English Centre Full Review

The good
- Large and varied on-site facilities (sports hall, art studio, garden, etc.)
- Small student intake and teacher-student relationships are more personalised.
- One of the most affordable language schools in Brighton.
The bad
- The school is less diverse than other schools all year round; most students attend as a group rather than as individuals.
- Further out from the city centre, it is a 35-minute journey by public transport.
Ideal for students looking for a quiet, small school away from the city centre and surrounded by nature.
Loxdale English Centre is based in Brighton, 35 minutes from the city centre, so it is not the best location for exploring central Brighton. The school is based in a suburban area and is surrounded by nature.
If you are looking for a quiet, simple school with lots of quirk and history, this school would be perfect for you, AND the fees will not hurt your pockets! This school is ideal for students in their late teens or early 20s, as 80% of the student population comprises students between the ages of 8-24.

2 St Giles International Brighton Full Review

The good
- They have a creative and advanced social programme catering to everyone, specifically to students over 30.
- Option of premium facilities for students who want to pay a higher course fee.
The bad
- It can feel impersonal with so many students at the school.
Ideal for meeting students from many different countries and enjoying the best of Brighton with them.
St Giles International Brighton is an impressive school set in the best location in Brighton. They are one of the only schools that accept 14-year-old students on the General English course, which is a big plus for students who want to start during the summer season.
Their social programme is impressive, and one of the best in Brighton, in my opinion. There are a lot of creative ideas that go into the planning of social events.

- Offer internships within the hospitality industry.
- Strong community within the school, with an active student ambassador programme.

- The school does not cater to immobility; the building has no lifts.
- 30% of students are from Saudi, a below-average diversity mix.
Ideal for students looking for a community atmosphere where they can make a physical impact at school.
Bayswater College Brighton (Bayswater) is an excellent school for students seeking a community vibe and are passionate about social causes. The school has internships that allow students to use their English skills in the hospitality industry within a natural working environment.
The large classrooms have ample lighting and interactive whiteboards for their interactive online resources and their e-learning platform. There is a good range of free social activities, and the social programme team encourage students to suggest new activity options.

- They have a great social programme with many varied activities (creative and non-creative).
- Quite a new building (2017) with very modern technology.
- Excellent location, close to the busy city centre and opposite a large green area.
The bad
- Their younger student body may be a nuisance for mature students.
Ideal for younger students who are interested in progressing their English within a larger school.
Kings Brighton is a school for students seeking an all-inclusive experience. The school is located in a great location, within walking distance of the main city centre and the beach, as well as opposite a park where students are said to have picnics in the summer.
I would recommend this school to students in their late teens to early twenties who prefer the convenience of living and studying in the same place and want a “hand-held” approach to their learning experience.

6 EC English Brighton Full Review

The good
- The school is a new modern building with excellent facilities and is fitted with air-conditioning and heating.
- They are launching a new 30+ Lounge, with classrooms and a floor dedicated to the 30+ courses.
- Excellent location, 2 minutes walk from the beach and 5-10 minutes from the main city centre.
The bad
- There is not a very diverse mix of students (the majority of students are from Arabic-speaking countries).
- One of the more expensive schools in Brighton.
Ideal for younger students (18-24) and students who want to be surrounded by something other than European students; most students do not come from European countries.
EC English Brighton (EC) is just as classy as EC London; the only difference is that it has more space and facilities on site. The building is modern, with heating, air-conditioning and large windows with natural light in every classroom.
From my observations and conversations, I think a student in their late teens/early 20s would be the ideal person for this school; the average age of a student at EC is about 22 years old.
