Accademia Studioitalia Rome – Candid Review & Inspection Report

Ideal for students who want to be near the Vatican City.
Not ideal for students who are looking for an upscale school.

The good

  • Very affordable tuition fees.
  • Safe location.
  • Small class sizes.

The bad

  • Small range of courses.
  • Outdated building and facilities.

Date of my inspection visit at Accademia Studioitalia Rome: June 11, 2024.

My overall take

Accademia Studioitalia is one of the schools located further from the heart of Rome, the closest landmarks of interest are all in the Vatican City. However, it is well connected to the centre of Rome with multiple bus options.

One of Studioitalia’s main USPs is that every class is taught by two different teachers. This ensures that students are exposed to a variety of accents and vocabularies, enriching their listening and comprehension skills. Unlike many other schools, they avoid separating their lessons into grammar and speaking sessions, aiding a more natural and fluid learning experience.

Classes often go beyond the classroom setting, and teachers often assign practical tasks to students, either practising giving directions or describing places around the historic heart of Rome in Italian. This practical application of their newly learned words allows the students to experience Italian in a real-world context. Additionally, all social activities are in Italian, keeping the momentum going outside of the classroom.

Studioitalia, although not the most modern premises, heavily uses modern technology to enhance the lessons. They use online platforms such as Socrate, Kahoot, and Thinklink to create interactive and engaging lessons.

Overall, my visit to Studioitalia highlighted its commitment to promoting fun through learning through innovative teaching methods and the practical application of language skills. The ideal students for this school are those who want to have fun during their courses/classes. The director of studies believes that if you have fun, you can remember more about what you are studying. So age and nationality are unimportant, but the student who comes here has to desire to learn Italian and be eager to learn something new.

My tour of the school & video review

Accademia Studioitalia Rome Review

Student voices

Unfiltered comments from random students I met at the school and asked about their experience.

The environment itself and the teachers. The classes are between 5 and 8 people, so you get to speak and use the language.

Questions to school director

Excerpts below from my conversation with Alessandro Mariotti, Director of Studies of Accademia Studioitalia Rome.

Me: “What sets your school apart from others in the city?

School: “Our most important thing is to provide two different teachers for each class and lesson, one before and after the break. We use technology in our classes, and we invite our students to use their smartphones in class.

Me: “Is there a particular type of student for whom your school is especially suitable?

School: “The age or nationality is not important. For us, the best student who can learn in our school is the student who wants to have fun during the learning process.”

School inspection report

Classrooms

Classrooms are a fair size, especially for the number of students per class (12 maximum, 6-8 average). They are not the most modern in appearance, but some are equipped with interactive whiteboards, and every class has a PC and monitor, ensuring that both teachers and students have access to the latest educational platforms.

Facilities

There are no notable facilities or communal areas.

Surrounding area

The school is about a 5-10 minute walk to the closest buses servicing the city centre of Rome. Other notable landmarks relatively close by are Castel Sant’Angelo, Saint Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and Piazza Navona.

Social activities

This school offers affordable activities (5 euros or less). They offer Italian cooking classes, watching Italian movies with Italian subtitles, and free seminars on the ancient history of Rome, Roman superstitions, etc. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was that the activities were not arranged according to the days of the week, unlike many other schools in Rome.

Why no Google or Facebook ratings? Schools may have requested Facebook, Google or Trustpilot reviews only from those students that previously gave positive after-course evaluations. I only trust ratings from independent booking platforms/agencies, that allow exclusively clients who booked via their platform to rate the schools. I have checked each of these sites above and they have no disproportional number of positive vs negative reviews.
